CONFERENCE PLAY OFF OVER RULED: The play off system which was set to come into action this season has been turned down by the FA. The end of season finale would have seen 5 teams battling it out to gain promotion to the football league will no longer stand and the winners of the Nationwide conference will be promoted a normal. SOUTHPORT BOSS QUITS: Southport boss Mark Wright has walked out of his side after their defeat against Dag and Red. He had not been offered a new contract and new his 18 months at the club had come to an end. Chairman Clapham praised Wright for his work at the port but admitted his relationship with him was wearing thin due to a disagreement over Southport going full time. ADDISON QUITS: Yeovil Town manager Colin Addison has quit his side after they failed to capture the conference title. He feels his chairman John Fry put him in an impossible situation and was forced to leave the club. BYE BYE..:Kettering, Kingstonian and Hednesford Town have all been relegated from the Nationwide Conference. RUSHDEN UP: Rushden and Diamonds today officially were named Conference champions 2000/01. Brian Talbots side travelled to Chester looking for a point to secure the title won, but in fact come away with all three after a convincing 2-1 win at the Deva Stadium. WHO ELSE JOINS US: Margate, have won promotion from the Dr Martens and will join us in the conference next season. Farnborough have secured promotion from the Ryman division along with Stalybridge from the Unibond division. BARNET JOIN US: Barnet have dropped out of the league after loosing 3-2 at home to Torquay. Who ever lost in this crucial battle would go down and it looked certain to Barnet at half time. They trailed 30 but in the second half made a go of it. To the away supporters delight they failed to get a third and and now been relegated to the English Conference. RUSHDEN SO CLOSE: Rushden are one step closer to securing league football for next season after a 2-1 win over Dover yesterday. They currently lie on 83 points with one game remaining. Yeovil are still to play two games and are on 80 points. If Rushden win next Saturday there place in Division three is certain as their goal difference is sufficiently better than Yeovils. MIKE MARSH LEAVES THE PORT: Mike Marsh has walked out and vowed never to play for Southport again. The former Liverpool midfielder was accused of playing for a Sunday league side by his Chairman and was then fined for refusing to travel to an away game.
